March 18 – Elementary Closure – Paul Turkin

Hello elementary families,

I just wanted to send out a quick note to acknowledge what a surreal time this is for all of us at PCS. As I’ve said to the staff, I keep going back and forth between disbelief and, frankly, wondering how we’ll keep our children busy during this time. I shouldn’t have worried; while I was outside working in the yard, they created an exercise chart for all of us to follow, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to escape it.

I know that this spring break doesn’t look like any of us thought it would; it’s doubtless that many of you gave up plans and activities to which you’d been looking forward, and that these measures have been the source of disappointment, uncertainty, and perhaps some anxiety. But I also know that PCS is an amazing place, and despite our need to isolate, we will find community. I know that there are social media groups starting up specifically for this purpose, and I’ve seen that families are finding ways to stay in touch with each other regularly, if not in person.

As Darren has said, we are gathering as a leadership team to plan the next steps of school continuity, and we hope to give you some more information by this Friday. As well, we’re in touch with FISA and SCSBC, who are providing leadership, resources, and advice. Following that, we will be supporting our teachers as they move forward, and we will begin writing another chapter of learning at PCS.

Until then, I leave you with the most sure certainty I can; that of the Lord Himself, who is not wringing His hands over this, and to whom we can bring all our cares and anxieties.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

 Blessings,

 Paul Turkin
