March 28 – PCS Weekly Bulletin #2

A couple of days ago we asked our community what their hopes, fears and questions were around education at PCS at this time. Over 350 families took the time to complete the survey. Thank you! As a school, we’re committed to listening.

As part of our response to your questions, we’ve created a “Frequently Asked Questions” document. It answers many of the questions we’ve heard and which undoubtedly many of you will share. I strongly encourage all parents to read it. Our plan is to update it as new information becomes available. We’ll post it to our mypcs.ca website – which is rapidly becoming our ‘go to’ place for all information related to educational continuance at this time.

As I read your responses to the survey, I was encouraged by the amazingly strong community that PCS is. There is a profound sense of shared journey and a hope that despite the unprecedented challenges we face, we will be able to continue to both be the community we are known to be and to continue to provide an education that is consistent with our mission of “Nurturing students in Christ-like living, critical thinking and joyful service to be faithful citizens in God’s world.”

There were also shared worries. Many have seen their hours reduced or their jobs placed on hold. PCS is committed to journeying with you. We have created an Emergency Financial Assistance Program to help people most impacted. We’ve been encouraged, as well, that in the midst of difficulty many have stepped in to help others in need through donations to this program.

Emergency Services Workers
When our Provincial Education Minister ordered the suspension of most in-person classes. He made an exception for the children of Emergency Services Workers. It’s extremely important that people in Health Care, for instance, be available to meet the needs of the current crisis. PCS has been asked to provide for childcare and support of these workers. We’d ask PCS parents who are Emergency Services Workers complete an online survey as soon as possible to help us be ready to provide this in the very near future.

I’ll leave you with the words of a familiar blessing.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Yours truly,
Darren Lewis
Superintendent
