Dear Secondary families:
Thank you for the words of encouragement and prayerful support many have offered during this time. As staff have gathered (virtually) to plan our transition to remote learning, concern for the well-being of our school community has been a recurring theme. We hope that students and families will continue to feel a sense of love, belonging, and support even while we are physically apart.
On Saturday, Darren Lewis sent the most recent community update and referenced an important FAQ document. Please be sure to read it if you have not.
This current bulletin includes information about 3 key areas for secondary students:
- Student emails (for accessing Google Classroom)
- Process for borrowing a Chromebook
- Pick-up of student belongings and learning materials from the secondary school
- Student Emails and Google Classroom
Teachers have been working exceptionally hard to plan for continued learning in our physically distanced context. As a first step, they are opening Google Classrooms and inviting students to join. The invitations will be sent to each student’s PCS email account. Every student has a school email account that begins with the student’s 4-digit student number and has this basic form: 1234@pacficchristian.email
If your child does not know how to access their PCS email, please contact deb.smith@pacificchristian.ca
The hope is that all students will be able to accept the invitation to join their classes by Friday, if not sooner. I know many students have already signed in. - Borrowing Chromebooks
If your family needs to borrow a Chromebook to support remote learning, and you did not already request this through last week’s survey or through student services, please contact neil.mossie@pacificchristian.ca. Please note that parents/guardians must make the request, as the parent is assuming responsibility for the care and safe return of the Chromebook. - Opportunities for pick-up of student belongings
There are 5 times available for students (or parent) to pick up materials at the secondary school:
Secondary pick-up only (no elementary pick-up available)
• Thursday, April 2 (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm)
Secondary and elementary pick-up available
• Monday, April 6 (9:00 am – 11:00 am)
• Monday, April 6 (12:00 pm – 2:00 pm)
• Tuesday, April 7 (10 am – noon)
• Tuesday, April 7 (4 pm – 6:00 pm)
We ask that the student or parent bring a bag large enough to completely clean out belongings from lockers and gym lockers (if necessary). For families who have requested to borrow a Chromebook, Mr. Mossie will have devices available for sign-out. Band students may pick up their instruments and music folders in the Studio.
Please thoroughly read and adhere to the following protocols for pick-up.
Protocols for pick-up of student materials (secondary)
As people access materials at the school, it is imperative that we abide by the requirements of the Provincial Health Officer and Public Health Agency of Canada. For elementary pick-up, please refer to protocols issued by elementary administration. For the secondary school, the protocols are as follows:
- Do not come to the school if you are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, if you have had contact with someone with Covid-19, or if you have travelled internationally in the last 14 days.
- While on school property, individuals must follow physical distancing guidelines by maintaining at least 2 meters between themselves and others at all times.
- The number of people sharing space in the building at any one time will be controlled. You may need to wait in line outside, so please be prepared for weather.
- Upon entry, the student (or parent) should go straight to the locker to empty it into the bag they brought, touching only their own locker and belongings. Students should take their personal lock home as well.
- If necessary, the student (or parent) will then go the gym to retrieve belongings from the gym locker/bin. PE locks should be left in the bin provided.
- Those picking up instruments or Chromebooks will be directed to pick-up locations.
- Once finished, individuals will exit at the southeast doors (nearest the church).
NOTE: There will be no washroom access available during this time. Hand sanitizer will be available at both the entrance and the exit of the school.
If you have questions about retrieval of materials, please contact gabe.kremler@pacificchristian.ca
Though these are very challenging times for our community and our world, we know that God is present and at work always. We look forward to continuing to invite students to “consider His works” as they learn and grow through this time.
May God bless and keep you,
Lorna Herzog
