K-12 Mask Update

PCS Families,

As most of you will be aware, on Friday the provincial mask regulations for schools were broadened to include all students in grades K – 12. Students and families in grades K-3 who under the former guidelines were encouraged to wear masks are now required to do so.

Evidence compiled by the BC Centre for Disease Control and others continues to show that masks are an important part of an overall health and safety strategy to reduce the transmission of Covid.

This past week, one of our sister schools (Abbotsford Christian Elementary School) made the difficult decision to transition to online learning to address an increasing number of Covid cases in their elementary school. Our school leadership and staff are committed to following the best evidence-based guidance to keep our school open and safe.

The PCS Communicable Disease Plan has been updated to reflect the most recent provincial updates and includes the process to request exemptions based on medical or behavioural need.

While we know that there will be a range of responses (from relief to frustration) with these changes, we ask everyone in our community to remember that how we journey together in times of difficulty is a key part or our Christian witness.

The Apostle John talks about God’s love being revealed through His sacrifice for us. I pray that in this moment our love for each other can be shown in our willingness to sacrifice our wants and desires for the well being of others.

My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God….This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.

My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in us—perfect love!

1 John 4: 7-12
