Over the past few months, PCS has been going through a process to fill the Director of Learning and Formation position. This person is tasked with supporting PCS’ missional objective to “nurture students in Christ-like living, critical thinking and joyful service to be faithful citizens in God’s world”. The emphasis of the role is to journey alongside staff and support the team as they seek to accomplish that mission and work with your children.
The Board recently unanimously approved the appointment of Owen Webb as the Director of Learning and Formation effective August 15, 2022. Owen comes to PCS from Hamilton District Christian High School where he is currently the Dean of Students.
Please join us in praying and otherwise supporting Owen and the rest of the staff team as they seek to offer “Educational Excellence to the Glory of God.”
The Director of Learning and Formation role is not new to the school but Owen will be filling the void that was left when Heidi Young-Thompson shifted from that role to become the Elementary School Principal. For the past while, the rest of the staff team has been flexing and pivoting in this transitional time. The Director of Learning and Formation is a K-12 role that supports teaching staff by helping to equip them to teach in a Christian context. The complexity of teaching and grappling with curriculum through the eyes of faith are significant so we are thankful that, over the years, we have had someone who is specifically tasked with this role. Owen will also be actively engaged in classroom teaching and/or team teaching (details tbd). This is an impactful role for teaching staff over the years and translates into higher quality Christian education for the students at PCS.
A Little Bit About Owen
Owen Webb grew up in Victoria, completing a BEd in Physical Education and Mathematics. After moving to Ontario for a ministry role with Young Life, Owen landed at Hamilton District Christian High (HDCH) where he worked for the past 20 years teaching Mathematics and Geography. Owen completed his doctoral studies in Educational Leadership at Brock University in 2018, focusing on developing school culture through restorative practices.
For the past three years, Owen has served as the Dean of Students at HDCH, supporting school culture, promoting student and staff care, investing in student leadership, and resolving conflict restoratively. He is passionate about changing culture through classroom learning, applying restorative approaches to create relational and just learning environments that support Christian Deeper Learning.
Owen and his wife Cheryl have two children, Ethan and Myla. In his spare time he loves coaching soccer, cheering on the Blue Jays, and taking walks at the edge of the lake (soon to be by the edge of the ocean!). He can’t wait to join the PCS community.
